The Legion of Mary's aim is for the self sanctification of its members through a weekly meeting which includes the Rosary, a spiritual reading, a talk and a discussion on various topics. For example The Mass may be a topic, so we read, listen and discuss that in order to understand the topic better. In Correspondence we hear snippets from the Concilium newsbulletin the members give a report on their work task taken from the previous meeting so that by sharing their experiences of the work they can learn from each other.

The Legion of Mary's purpose is to train the members through Formation and Development in the work task taken from the meeting. We undertake various work tasks depending on the needs of the parish. For example, vistation to the sick and elderly, bereaved, lapsed Catholics, non-Catholics, home-to-home etc. A new member would work with an experienced memberwho had done the work before so that they could demonstrate how to make the approach etc. Quite simply after undertaking various work in the parish, you, without realising, become an Apostle.
